Making the Right Choice on a freeview Box

When purchasing a Freeview box take your TV and VCR/DVD recorder manuals along. This will enable the sales person to advise you on which cables you require for maximum quality picture and sound.
When deciding which Freeview box to purchase, there are a few things you need to consider:
* Please note : The digital terrestrial service is scheduled for launch in 2008.
- Digital terrestrial is not available to all areas. This means that if you move to an area that does not receive the UHF signal then a terrestrial set-top box will become redundant. The other disadvantage to terrestrial set-top boxes is the fact that they are more prone to signal loss and disruption than the satellite option. Signal loss also occurs when installing freeview into more than one room. The biggest advantage with terrestrial is that you do not have the added expense of installing a satellite dish.
- Digital satellite has the advantage of better signal anywhere in the country. It isn’t as susceptible to signal loss and disruption as terrestrial, provided it is installed correctly. It is also more flexible in the sense that if you decide to take advantage of free to air channels from another satellite, namely B3, then this can be achieved without having to buy another set-top box. The biggest disadvantage is obviously the expense of having the satellite dish installed.
Please Note : A satellite set-top box will not work on a terrestrial signal and visa versa.
